my performance activities this week

Tuesday 9: The Baitong Ukulele Circle, 7.30 – 9 pm. A chance for uke players of all levels, from beginner to over-achiever, to come and share, learn, show off, whatever… over a civilised drink or two. Bring a uke if you have one, bring two if you have two! For those of you who have none, there is at least one spare…… Baitong, #7, St 360. Technically it’s not really performance, but it’s a public activity, so….. for more information:

Thursday 11: the return of Bywater@Baitong, after last week’s holiday. There must be new people in town that will hover behind a mic for a song or two. Nice food too :). Baitong, #7, St 360, btw Norodom and 51.

Friday 12: a new act, a new venue, playing acoustic with Andre Swart at ARTillery Cafe, on 240 1/2 St, 7 pm – 10 pm. I’m not sure what to expect, but it’s a nice little room. You will definitely hear Phnom Penh Driving School.

Saturday 13: again, not precisely performance, but I am running a poetry and song lyric writing workshop at Phnom Penh Community College from 9.30 am – 1 pm. Finding a voice and speaking up. $30 for the session, including refreshments. Bookings through the PPCC.

Saturday 13: The Lazy Drunks crawl across Norodom and onto the stage at Slur Bar on 172 St. Who knows what might happen out of taking this outfit so far west. From 9 pm.

Sunday 14: Sunday Sundowner Sessions from 4 – 7 pm at Rubies, cnr 19 & 240 Sts. Scoddy and a cast of thousands. Well, dwindling thousands, given the time of year. The Beatles after The Beatles turned out really well, allowing a bit of leeway on the actual choice of songs for the unprepared. There will be another special on August 4th – watch this space to find out the theme.

Coming soon: more WASH, more Moi Tiet (delayed, unfortunately, as it looks like a planned double header will be cancelled due to the elections…) and a poetry reading with outer-space-bass.

all these and much, much more around town this week can be searched through the voluminous weekly music listings at And then check and sign up at for the arts scene in Cambodia.
